Remix- Lane Clifford

I think the issues with remixing are taken way too seriously. I feel like the only reason a company or artist should want to sue is if the person who remixed it is making money and not giving the original artist any percentage. Remixes are really cool and it is a great way to make an old song, piece of art, book, etc. new again. I thought the situation with Yoko Ono was annoying because the artist just wanted to express how John Lennon's music made people happy and she wasn't even using a recording of his music. I think remixes are an important form of art. I understand that the rules are made so people don't steal another persons work but I feel like the big corporations are just fishing for money by trying to sue innocent people like Stephanie Lenz. Lenz wasn't even making any money off the video of her child dancing to a Prince song. The situation was blown out of proportion when Universal wanted to sue this innocent mom for sharing a video on Youtube with Prince playing as background noise. However, copyright is necessary for situations when an artist is trying to make money off of another artist's work.

  1. The issues are honestly taken too seriously. I agree though that copyright can be necessary to have at times.

  3. I agree that these issues are taken too seriously. Overtime i think people are going to get too scared to post videos because of the consequences they might face.
