Remix - Stephen A.
This reading started off with the example of the woman who was sued over posting a video of her child dancing to a Prince song. Though this may not seem bad in nature, she obviously must have accepted some form on monetization when the video went viral, which is grounds for suing because Prince would not have been given any of the money. Remixes are a tough concept, but fair use laws are in place for music and entertainment online. The author of this reading also talks about how most things are inspired by other things too, which makes sense. Everything is some kind of a remix of something else, but I believe putting your own spin on your personal creations makes it your own work, with an inspiration from someone else, not a remix.
I agree that the mother with the Prince video must have monetized the video when it went viral for it to be subject to copyright infringement.
ReplyDeleteI agree today everything is sort of a recycled version of another thing, but that it is important to try an make it your own. I think this benefits the music world because it moves it forward in creating the newest best releases.

ReplyDeleteThe law is the law, but the application of law in certain occasions can seem ridiculous. This is why studying law is so hard.
