Subversion and Redemption - Stephen

1. The author mentions children's books as an example of subversion. "Go the Fuck to Sleep" was the best and most interesting book mentioned. Another example of a subversion would be "Vampires Suck" which is a parody movie of Twilight. Another could be the "Scary Movie" series because it pokes fun at actual horror movie based scenarios, but satirizes them to a point where it's literally a joke. These are subversions because they are satirizing something intended to be serious and giving it a whole new tone by doing so.
2. The point of GTFTS was to show an audience the feeling of being a distressed parent who's child will not sleep. It's not necessarily targeted for children as an audience, but is most definitely targeting those kinds of parents or people who can relate to the issue. It's a mechanism to induce a feeling that one is not alone in that struggle and also bring humor to a rather annoying situation.
