Anthony Cucci Research Paper Textbook Reading 2/8

The reading was obviously well put together, and I imagine it would be useful if I was completely stuck finding a research topic, but I felt that I did not learn very much from the reading. The stepwise process on how to first pick a topic and then narrowing-down of a topic into a research question that is interesting was valid, but like I said before, I did not learn much from it. This is because I have my own way of picking a research topic, with some aspects of which being explained in this reading. I really like to make a list of possible ideas that really interest me. Then, I google the topic to see if there are sources easily available and if there are more specific topics within my original idea that will work out better for my paper. After that, I turn to the FSU library website and get very solid information from peer-reviewed sources. I also base a lot of my topic ideas on the parameters of the paper that is to be written. If I have to write a very long research paper, I will not pick a topic that is very narrow and specific because I do not want to be left short-handed with information.  I do not know what I will research for the paper due in this class but I have not put any thought into it yet, seeing as we just turned in our adaptation essay a few days ago.

  1. I agree in the fact this would only be helpful if I was completely lost and having no luck finding and topic. I also go through a similar but different process to pick out my topic. I do need to start looking for this upcoming essay though.

  2. I agree with you about not learning as I also have my own way of picking a topic to write. So the information about how to pick a topic felt like it was just another way to do things if I happened to get stuck.

  3. I think that your process for picking a topic is good and definitely works.
