Arielle Powell "Navigating Genres"

I really enjoyed this reading. Kerry Dirk made it really straightforward and easy to read. When Dirk speaks about the country song, she uses common features found in country songs to "make" one. In the reading, I found out that there are many different ways to alter your writing by using different formats. For writers, the genre is a like a guide to help them with heir writing. I feel like genre conventions add spice to writing. When using genre you have to think about your purpose and your audience.

  1. The essay was straightforward. I think that is what made it easy to understand. I've been using genres as a guide all my life without even knowing.

  2. I agree that genre is like a guide, rather than a rule book for writers to follow. Conventions can help in conveying a work to an audience, but they aren't always necessary.
