Shitty First Draft Refelction
Ashia Carr
After reading Anne Lamott’s “Shitty First Drafts,” surprisingly I’m excited about writing. Excited to write about anything, which is a place I thought I wouldn’t have gotten back to. The article was inspiring but the author at times came off as someone trying a little too hard to validate herself. I get the sense that self validation is a key factor in writing. According to the author and from personal experience, first drafts are typically shitty and it’s discouraging, but it’s nice to know now that it’s apart of the process. It’s comforting to know that even the best of writers struggle with writing. It’s a process and A+ papers aren’t generated overnight. At least not for me.
I also thought it was cool that it isn't a bad thing to go through a process when writing and sort of just write what's on your mind
ReplyDeleteI agree it does make writing less daunting, and it is good to see that even the best of writers write shitty first drafts. I also agree a good paper is definitely not generated over night, and creating a shitty first draft is step one in the process.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the first part of your post. When i read "Shitty first drafts" it got me excited about writing and i wanted to apply it to my own papers.
