Derek Brashers: Navigating Genres
Alright everyone, here is my first blog post ever... Here goes nothing
I thought the joke in the beginning of the article was tasteless and borderline offensive. I'm not a country music fan myself but I know some that are, and I know they would be displeased.
I take a lot with me after reading this essay by Mrs. Dirk. My knowledge of genres can be totally different from some of my other peers. There is so much variety in genres that it is hard to go in one direction for a certain essay. There are no formal attributes of one certain type of genre and the writer has a lot of flexibility when it comes to writing an essay. I agree with the sense that you don't have to master one genre and that it is better to be familiar with all the genres to become a more complete writer. Before taking this class, I would have never thought genre was this big of a deal. Genre this, genre that; I am starting to get overwhelmed.

I agree with your point on how there is a lot of flexibility in writing. and also how you dont have to master one genre

ReplyDeleteI understand what your saying with the overwhelming felling with all the types of genres out there . What i have grown to learn is that there is a lot of fluidity to the definition of genres. Not only that but how they appear in all different types of rhetorical situations and how each source has its own way of defining a genre.
