"Shitty First Drafts"
Arielle Powell
In English classes that I've had before I was taught to a rough draft, then the final draft. In the first draft, the "shitty draft". I was taught to brainstorm and write down all my ideas then develop my essay. Through high school, I always believed my first draft was the most important because it was the basis for all ideas I was going to write about. If you just write what comes to your head you will find that it will be more interesting. After reading this I realize that first drafts are not supposed to be perfect. Honestly, you just have to trust the process as Lamott said.
I relate with what you said about believing that the first draft was the most important. It's good to know that you can use the first draft to get your ideas out, but it doesn't have to be perfect.
