This essay essentially to me build upon what we have been learning in the past few class periods. I have always connected genres to movies and TV shows very easily so i have a semi good basis on what genres are. What this text helps me to understand is that genres are all around us. Even the simplest things like titles and commercials follow a certain genre. Two big things that i get from the this text is that genres are defined by what fits into there circle and don't keep a defined definition at all times. I also picked up the fact that a lot of a genres direction is based on the audience its trying to serve. Dirk mentions this with the movies someone watches, like for a emotional time or a tense thrill. This essay was more a reiteration for me but it defiantly inculcates what genres are.
I also agree with what you said, this essay did sort of build upon what we have been reading about in response to genre. I think its good to learn all aspects of genre, but parts of reading this essay ( to me ) got boring.
