William Galvano- Navigating Genres

I believe that the reason we read this essay was to build upon what we learned about genre this far. Prior to this we knew that genre can be the format or medium in which words are written such as a state of the union address or a Harry Potter story. This essay by Kery Dirk begins to touch on the type of piece something is after the initial genre has been recognized. To clarify, we know that there are tons of books in the world and a book is a genre but within this genre spurs many more sub genres like fantasy, comedy, or horror. Another thing I like to consider is the way in which something is categorized into a genre. When Dirk talked about writing a country song she took some common features of country song and said that with this information she should be able to write her own. She goes on to say it is not that simple and genre requires a "feel" to. Genre within a genre is not concretely categorized.
