Chapter 1
Before
reading this chapter I never realized that genre was more than a simple
organizational tool for different types of music or books. Too say that I
understood the true depth of the term “genre” would be a complete lie. This
chapter showed me that genre covers more than just a certain type of music; it
showed me that each writer writes in their own genre and their genre all
depends on the rhetorical situation they are put in. The adjustments to their
style, understanding who they are writing for, figuring out how they want to appeal
to their audience, as well as other things, makes each individual’s writing
both their own genre and unique amongst the other pieces of the same type. Chapter one of the Bedford Book of Genres really helped me understand that genre is a flexible term and does not mean each piece within a designated genre will be the same or even similar.
I like your style of writing and how well it flows. It was interesting how you began to expand on your views of genres before reading the article compared to after.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you on not understanding the depth of genre. I knew the definition, but had no clue about all the things it consists of. Your reflection of the chapter is well-developed and interesting.
