Navigating the different genres is a big task. There are many different genres and even different forms of similar genres. To determine what genre is you pay attention to form, context, rules, and situation. The author of "Navigating Genres" did a good job explaining how genres function. This essay helped me understand that genres are dependent on experiences and similar situations. Once a piece of writing is composed for a certain situation and for a certain purpose, it creates a first response. This helps writers in the future write in this genre by comparing their writing to the previous. Genres develop when many writers respond to situations accordingly.
