Grace Altenburg Shitty First Drafts
I really enjoyed reading what Anne Lamott had to say in this passage. She has a creative and intriguing way she writes, her ideas are also applicable to me and just about anyone who has to write. The idea of writing a "shitty first draft" makes the act of writing less daunting. The fact that she even said that great writers use this technique makes me feel it works that much better.
I also love the idea of just getting your ideas down, you aren't sure yet what you're going to use, but at least you have all of it down to clean up later. I actually have used this process when writing creative pieces for english classes but never research papers. It worked well when I used it so I would definitely recommend. I feel like it would be a no brainer to try it out on something more complicated and long such as a research paper, and cant wait to try.

I agree with the concept of just getting your ideas down! Writing is very much like a think tank among friends or in a business, in that you have to throw out and view every option and idea and cross out the ones that don't quite fit what you seek.
ReplyDeleteI liked the inclusion of how you have previously used this concept in your own written work. It really prompts you to consider how using this method would actually work with a research paper.
