Jordan Shitty First Drafts

The article “Shitty First Drafts” by Anne Lamott was both surprisingly entertaining with her personality flowing throughout the entire article and enlightening as I have always been told to write one draft, revise it, and put some final touches on before turning it in as a final draft. Lamott challenges that by utilizing her credibility as an author and pulling in the ways that other well-known authors, that she personally knows, write. The general consensus amongst these beloved authors is that writers need to write three drafts before they consider their piece to be finished. The point of writing that shitty first draft is to get all of your ideas out in writing without being censored. Although most of what you write in that first draft is going to be the equivalent of hot garbage, there will more than likely be something you absolutely love within it and THAT is what your writing will focus around. I absolutely enjoyed reading this article and truly believe that the shitty first draft idea will only help to improve my writing, and yours, from this point on.
