I found Dirk's essay pertaining to genres intriguing to say the least. It was both informative and humorous. It made me understand genres in the big picture. I never even thought to think about why I write things a particular way every single time, such as emails and letters. I grew up having to write about various genres in my English classes, and it was always so boring to me. She ended the essay with a list of bullet point suggestions, which is a useful addition for college students like me. Next time I'm trying to come up with a thesis statement, genres will definitely come to mind.
