Elijah response to First Drafts

As I read this small story, I took away a lot, with most of the article being filled with knowledge that I felt would greatly enhance how I can improve upon my future first draft. I learned that revisions and editing are key aspects of the drafting process, and that the first time you write, you are bound to make errors. Writing is very spontaneous, and often times we write down the first thing that comes to our head when we are assigned a particular topic. With the drafting process however, we can consolidate those ideas, and turn them into a presentable essay. I found it very cool that writing whether it be a food review or a news article, all of it is essentially the same, and one must use the same processes to accomplish each task. This is especially real table to me because I can draw upon my knowledge of writing in the past in order to help me write better in the future. All in all, I took a  huge chunk of info from this article, and in actuality, it really opened my eyes up to not only the drafting process, but writing in general.

  1. I agree that in the first draft it is ok to make errors and also learned a lot about first drafts through reading this article. I used to believe first drafts had to be important.

  2. It essentially says that it is okay that you make errors in your first draft with it being beneficial because you get more content written down and you can fix those errors later. You also have a good point that no matter the format, whether it's a paper or a food article, the writing process across the board is very similar.

  3. I agree that the first draft can be used as an opportunity to consolidate all of your ideas into one place and grow from their. I used to believe that the first draft should be professional and near perfect, but it's good to know that errors are okay and expected in the writing process.

  4. I like how you described writing as spontaneous, because that's how I view it too. It's so much easier to just write what you think and then revise it later, which is where draft 2 and 3 come in.

  5. I learned the same thing you did about the drafting process. I didn't realize beforehand that editing and revising multiple times is hugely important to the process.

  6. I agree! Writing should be spontaneous and if we all take this to mind when writing our first draft we will be a lot more successful.
